Reading Endorsement| Program
The Reading Endorsement Program at Lake Erie College is aligned to the Science of Reading and can be completed by completing just five classes-- All online!
Students pursuing the Early Childhood and Intervention Specialist initial licensure may also earn a reading endorsement in 2 semesters (12 Credit Hours) immediately following successful completion of initial licensure requirements.
Courses are offered completely online. The Reading Endorsement may be added to any standard teaching license, including Early Childhood, Middle Childhood, Intervention Specialist, Adolescence to Young Adult (AYA), and Multi-Age License.
The Ohio Department of Higher Education Requires:
Applicants holding an AYA, Multi-Age, or Career Technical License must have completed a pre-requisite nine credit hours of undergraduate level reading coursework before being admitted.
All other applicants (Early Childhood, Middle Childhood, and Special Education) must have completed the prerequisite 12 credit hours of undergraduate level reading coursework before being admitted.
All applicants must complete a 3 credit phonics course. This course can be part of the reading credit requirement if previously completed. If an applicant has not previously completed a phonics course, they can add EMR505 Phonics to their reading endorsement program.

Tuition is $499/Semester Hour
In addition to the successful completion of coursework and the required 100 hours of practicum experience; applicants must also successfully complete the Ohio Assessment for Educators (OAE) Exam Subtest I #038 and Subtest II #039 per State of Ohio requirements before earning the Reading Endorsement.
Professional Disclosure Information
This fully online program meets Ohio's requirements for adding a reading endorsement to an existing teaching license. Lake Erie College is accredited and approved by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) as well as the Ohio Department of Higher Education.
Candidates who successfully complete the program and pass all associated state licensure exams are eligible to apply and be recommended for the reading endorsement. Completion of this program may not meet education requirements for a reading endorsement in another state.
